Here are some public institutions that have released artwork into the public domain for digital download and unrestricted use.
The BHL has released 150,000 Botanical and Animal Illustrations for unrestricted use and free download. They work with a consortium of natural history, botanical, and research libraries around the world to digitize and make their collections accessible as a part of a global “biodiversity commons.”
